Mistress Catherine Cocksfarthing
Blackwork Embroiderer

Born Catherine Bennet from the West End of London, I had many aspirations. I wanted to be married to a well-to-do gentleman, settle down to have many babies, and attend to the many areas of running a large and successful household. Alas, this was not to be. My parents did not come from a prominent household, and thus, I did not get to meet the gentleman of my dreams. My mother was a wonder with a needle, and as a young girl growing up, she taught me how to do blackwork.

One day, coming back from the market, I was stopped outside a rather rowdy pub by two men. These men were quite inebriated, and began to make comments and gestures to me that made my ears burn in embarrassment. I may not have come from royalty, but this language was not fit for any women to hear! Just when I thought there was no way out, my knight in shining armor came to my rescue! Even though he was not really a knight, this man swept in front of me from nowhere and made quick work of dispatching the uncooth bohemeths from my sight. When he turned to me, to see if I was alright, I fell in love right then and there.

It wasn't long after I became the wife to Percy Cocksfarthing. I was soon to find out that Percy had joined the regiment of Capatain Sir Edward Fairmont, and was to be leaving for Dublin on the next available boat as part of his garrison. I now travel with thier camp and continue my work as an embroiderer and care for our two children.
